I've been wanting to preserve some great Targa moments in paint for years and this year finally found the time to. The illustration done for this years poster is an acrylic painting 20" x 28" and pulls together some of the more recognizable cars from the last 10 years. The Stillen GTR was just such a photogenic car, always seemed to be going fast, even when standing still. Glen Clark's blue porsche, a fixture of Targa. The same can be said of the 2002. I had a 73 tii years ago and it was Roy and Adrianne's 02 that hooked me on Targa. The blue subaru, captured by Gord Sleigh in the early years, flying through gravel captured the essence of targa. The two mustangs, always favourites and the subjects of many great stories finish off the collage.

Reproducing a painting created with weeks of careful details has proved to be a challenge and I am still trying to get a decent image for reproduction. I hope to do some high quality fine art prints of this poster soon, though regrettably not before the 2011 event. Stay tuned.

Hey, where'd all the cars go. Seemed like a small group on this, the last day and last stage of TNL 2010. Tough year? Good thing they ran the stage twice. No one smacked the fence and the two ducks managed to cross the road between cars without incident.

Targa 2010 Gets Underway

A rainy start in Flatrock meant very view spectators where I was. The low wall that has claimed a few cars over the years, (last year's Subaru for instance), only had one victim today. Bob Yuille's 69 Camaro came in a bit fast onto loose gravel and spun. He managed to drive away sporting a banged up rear quarter. Hopefully no suspension issues.

Despite some less than photogenic weather last September, there were a few highlights. Brigus was miserable, waiting for hours in the rain and the cars were cautious. Some did manage some air on the red bridge though. Spent a few hours on a rock in Chapel's Cove which resulted in some cool angles. Some cars always look good but to me a good Targa Newfoundland shot needs to show the terrible conditions of these roads. Who needs shoulders when you have boulders!

One of my personal highlights from any year of Targa Newfoundland was sitting on an otherwise abandoned flat stretch and seeing the old Alfa come with the Tii Turbo close behind. As they got closer the Tii overtook the Alfa. Ahhh, the sound of 30 year old, 4 cylinder turbo is sweet. Crap photo but I only had a point and shoot then.
